Having already been instrumental in overturning Dan Westwell's ban from Field Mill, new Stags chairman James Derry is wasting no time in going further, and is determined to bring supporters back on side, following a troubled few months off the pitch at Field Mill.

Constant chanting against owner Keith Haslam has been loud and pressure continues to be applied for mr Haslam to step down from the club.

Mr Derry however is looking beyond the problems, and is wanting to talk with all groups to build bridges, he told the Mansfield CHAD over the weekend "People were very sceptical when I first came to the club, but all I ask is that they give me a chance.

"I wasn't a Stags fan, but I am now. You throw yourself into something and it takes over.

"We are trying to do what we can to improve the PR side of the club.

"I met with Team Mansfield today and I am going to the next Stags Supporters Association meeting next week.

"Fans have raised points with me and I will look into them.

"I am a very open guy and happy to talk to people."

Team Mansfield have responded postively to the talks, with "We had a very good meeting, a frank and honest discussion.

"We talked about the ongoing legal situation between Team Mansfield, individuals within the group and Keith Haslam.

"We felt that Mr Derry took on board what we had to say and he agreed to meet with us again in a couple of weeks to see how this, and other matters at the football club, have been moved forward."

It remains to be seen if Mr Derry can head off all the current protests, but is currently making all the right noises as he settles into the hotbed atmosphere at the moment.
