Stags boss Billy Dearden, talking to the Nottingham Evening Post about Barker's transfer "Any team would feel that losing their leading goal-scorer is a big loss and we are no different, It was probably a deal that was always likely to be done once he had spoken to them five or six weeks ago."

"I knew that it was on the cards before I took over as manager. I will be disappointed if I don't get some of the money from the transfer to spend on a replacement. That's what I expect.

"I will only get someone who will do me a job, whether that be short or long term. We just have to see who is available within our financial constraints."

"We sold Lee Peacock to Manchester City for £500,000 and that was a real blow to us then.

"But we got Chris Greenacre in on a free transfer from Manchester City, so it shows what is possible, though it is getting harder and harder to do that."
