GLASS ATTACKER IS BANNED FROM PUBS

A Man has been banned from every pub in Notts for two years for glassing a former Stags player in the face.

Scunthorpe United defender Stephen Foster needed 12 stitches after a fight in Mansfield.

Gary Dutton, 34, admitted wounding and told Nottingham Crown Court he has postponed his wedding to pay compensation to his victim.

Sarah Munro, defending, said: "Whenever he closes his eyes he thinks about this. Such is his horror that he has not had a drink since this offence.

"He walks his dog, takes his girlfriend out for meals and works hard. They are saving up to get married in Cyprus but he has decided to save up compensation for the victim in this case.

"He has saved up £4,000. He really has done everything to show the court that this type of behaviour is not typical for him."

The court previously heard that a barman saw Dutton shove a glass into the Mansfield-born footballer's face, causing a two-and-a-half inch cut on his forehead between his eyes.

Several other people were also fighting in the pub.

Prosecutor Robert Egbuna said: "When the defendant was interviewed he showed genuine remorse. He was genuinely apologetic after looking at the pictures of what he had done."

Judge John Burgess told Dutton that defendants in such cases were normally jailed.

He had adjourned sentencing to obtain up-to-date pictures of his victim's injuries. "I have seen the photos, they are nasty scars," he said. "They are unpleasant but not the worst that I have seen.

"I have thought long and hard about what I should do with you.

"Smashing a glass into someone's face is so highly dangerous that it is extremely rare that someone that does this type of violence will leave by any other route than the back door and down the stairs.

"I accept that this was outside your usual character and you have not been in trouble for 12 years."

He ordered Dutton, of Welbourne Close, Forest Town, to pay £4,000 compensation and £250 costs, and do 250 hours of community service.

He also banned him from every pub in Notts for two years and gave him
a nine-month suspended sentence.
