Notts County boss Steve Thompson has recruited John Gannon as his assistant at Meadow Lane.
Gannon was Keith Curle's No.2 at Mansfield and Chester, helping the Stags to the play-off final in 2004.
Thompson said: "I was at Sheffield United with John and I know him well, he is a former First Division player and knows the game.
"He is a great coach, hard-working, and conscientious."
Meanwhile, Thompson has been trying to recruit players and hopes to announce new signings by the end of the week.
"I have been on the phone non-stop and I have lost count of how many players I have been in touch with."
