Holland Optimistic

Despite feeling amongst supporters that this could just be another season of struggle, Holland is keen to point out that perhaps not all hope is lost as the season gets underway "We're under no illusions, we know it's going to be a long season," he told the Nottingham Evening Post at the weekend.

"There are going to be ups and downs, but if we can get off to a good start, we've seen in previous seasons what that can do.

"You look at Lincoln last year, who had an awful spell, but still got into the play-offs because of their good start.

"If you talk to every fan they talk about promotion.

"If we can take little blocks of five or six games and just keep the lads learning the right things and if we can start well, anything can happen."

Expectations were high last year after the pre-season, but myself and Billy have been in the game too long to read too much into pre-season.

"I've been involved in pre-seasons where we haven't won a game and been promoted and I've seen it the other way round as well.

"The results are not so important - rather the minutes under people's belts.

One thing that has impressed Holland has been the sharpness of the players during the pre season campaign "The fitness of the squad is looking fairly good" he went on.

"Some players have come back and look like they've grown up mentally as well as physically.

"I think the whole squad has done well - Danny Reet scored three goals at Alfreton, but he knows he needs to start doing that against league teams."
