Jelley out to stun Posh - 18/08/05

WEMBLEY hero Gareth Jelleyman is licking his lips at the prospect of putting one over Posh.

The Welsh left-back makes his first return to London Road on Saturday since a free transfer move to Mansfield Town in January.

And he is intent on condemning the club that launched his career to a third defeat of the new League Two season.

Jelleyman said: "I've got nothing but fond memories of my time at Posh and will always be greateful to Barry Fry for giving me my chance.

"A lot of the biggest influences on my career came at Posh, but sometimes I can't help thinking of what might have been.

"Every season I seemed to have a new challenge for the left-back place and I saw most of them off.

"But I had some bad injuries and it got to the stage where I felt I was going stale and in need of a new challenge.

"I've got just that at Mansfield and we have a young squad with some talented players who will be looking to win at London Road.

"I still keep in touch with Mark Arber, Chris Plummer, Sagi Burton and Adam Newton and it would be great to come back on Saturday and put one over them."

Jelleyman made 123 senior appearances for Posh after graduating from the youth ranks in 1999 and was a member of the side that famously won the Third Division play-off final at Wembley in 2000.

He is now part of a Mansfield squad oozing confidence after a demolition job on another relegated side, Torquay, last weekend.

And he insists the Stags camp is buzzing about the prospect of facing Posh.

He added: "We're obviously looking for promotion and think we have a decent chance. We didn't pick up the points we should have from our first two games but we played ever so well to thump Torquay 3-0 last weekend.

"The boys are all really looking forward to facing Posh because they are one of the favourites for promotion and a massive club at this level.

"I've heard they've come in for a bit of rough treatment already and there is a lot of it in this league.

"But Posh won't get that from us because we are a team that likes to get the ball down and play."
