Stags and Brewers in stalemate

Mansfield's home clash against high-flying Burton survived two pre-match pitch inspections but only served up a dour 0-0 draw in terrible swirling wind and driving rain.

For the Stags it was a ninth home game in all competitions without a win, but they at least managed a clean sheet against their promotion-chasing neighbours, who are now 10 games unbeaten.

The first half was a dire affair played in dreadful conditions.

In fact the only real chance came after only three minutes when Billy Kee refused to give in as Ritchie Sutton tried to shepherd the ball out for a goal-kick on the left, won the ball and tried to beat Alan Marriott from a tight angle but saw the goalkeeper parry his effort.

It took the Stags until the 57th minute to even send a shot goalwards, Matt Rhead shooting well wide.

But they were closer after 66 minutes when Ollie Palmer poked a low finish wide of the far post from a James Jennings free-kick.

Eight minutes later Anthony Howell headed an Adam Murray cross wide of the far post.

Albion hit back with two quick chances as Chris Hussey turned a Jimmy Phillips cross into the side-netting and Kee warmed Marriott's hands from 18 yards.

With 11 minutes remaining Shane Cansdell-Sheriff saw a free header from six yards deflect over from a Hussey corner in the game's best chance.
