Mistaken Identity

IT WASN'T ME, REFEREE...

Mansfield midfielder Stephen Dawson was not sent off against MK Dons despite two yellow cards because of a case of mistaken identity.

The Irishman was cautioned late in the first half by referee Kevin Wright and picked up another yellow card for dissent with a minute left.

But no red card followed because the official from Cambridgeshire marked one of the offences - thought to be the second - against Dawson's team-mate Matt Hamshaw.

Mr Wright has asked for a video of the game so he can review the incident.

Then he will be able to clarify the situation and leave the FA to decide on any relevant punishment.

The resulting delay means the player is likely to be available for Mansfield's home clash with Stockport on Saturday.

Any suspension he may incur would be enforced for the Stags' next game after that - at Grimsby on Friday August 18.
