Play Offs ???

The Stags are currently 8 points behind the last play off position with 48 points on the board, but it is recent history that needs to be studied if the Stags are to have any realistic ambition of a late push for the play offs.

Some supporters think this is possible, however if you read on, it is nigh on impossible if recent league points are anything to go by.

7th place is the poisition people are looking at, and for the last 8 seasons, no side has finished in that place with less than 70 points. Cardiff City in 1997 had 69 points and sneaked in.

That would leave the Stags needing 22 points from their remaining 8 games, which means 7 wins and 1 draw, with completely no room for error.

If you are though to look further than the past 8 seasons, the Stags themselves fnished in 7th spot in 1995 with only 65 points, if this was acheived again, then the team would need to gain 17 more points from their remaining games, a possible 5 wins and 2 draws, with only 1 game that they could afford to lose. The only problem with this though, is that when this was acheived, only 42 games were played in the season due to the number of teams in the division.

A full check on the 7th place points acheived, maybe just a reality check some need as far as play off talk goes.
