Players are Confident

Speaking to the official Mansfield Town Website, Shirtliff said "Everybody is feeling quite good about themselves at the moment but there is no room to be complacent. We will continue to work hard preparing for Saturday's game against Bristol Rovers exactly as we have for all our previous games.

"The players are very confident which has come as a result of getting good results on the pitch, they are playing quite well and there has been some very good individual performances. But we have to continue to be fluent and keep the momentum going and hopefully we can get another good result at Bristol On Saturday"

"We have lost fourteen games which is too many really and we have conceded too many goals. Of late we have been a bit tighter and long may it continue.

"You never know I suppose it is still mathematically possible but I am not thinking about things like the play-offs just concentrating on one game at a time and get as many points as possible and hopefully a win on Saturday will be a step in the right direction.

"We was a little bit unlucky not to pick up many points through the Christmas and January period but since then we have kicked on since then and done well. But as I said we need to keep concentrating on the game to hand and this week it is Bristol. When they came here I was surprised that they got a poi t out of the game I think they were probably as surprised as we were. We played quite well on the night and in my opinion we should have won the game but a late goal due largely to our naivety and stupidity cost us two points but we have to eliminate the errors and be tighter, and, take Walker and Agogo out of the equation by making sure they do not get on the score sheet on Saturday.

"What ever it will be a tough game, they are a difficult side and at home they will be looking to put out a good performance in front of their own fans"

Lawrence wants frustrations to end

Lennie Lawrence wants Bristol Rovers to put their Memorial Stadium frustrations firmly behind them and finish their home campaign with a flourish. The Pirates entertain mid-table Mansfield Town on Saturday keen to make up for a largely disappointing season at home, despite an overall improvement in form and admirable away record.

Five of Rovers' last eight matches are at the Mem and they dearly want to improve a record of only six wins from 18 outings in Horfield.

Director of football Lawrence admits Rovers' promotion chances have taken a blow in the wake of three straight defeats in a week, which have left them six points adrift of the top seven.

Lawrence insists he has not given up hope of salvaging a play-off place, but he and first-team coach Paul Trollope are already plotting ways of addressing the home form ahead of another promotion assault next term.

"We are all conscious of the fact Rovers fans are entitled to more than they've had in home games," he stressed.

"There has been plenty of effort and commitment from the players and some exciting matches. Our approach play has been good but we have conceded too many daft goals and been 'mugged' too many times.

"The simple truth is we haven't won enough times at home and it's something we'll need to sort out for next season if we're to challenge.

"In the meantime, 'let's give the fans something to cheer by finishing the season on a winning note at home."

Of those fast-fading play-off prospects, Lawrence reasoned: "There's no point denying it; we've had a bad seven days. We've deserved to draw all three games but no more than that in all honesty.

"The reality is we've lost them and we have a mountain to climb now. It means we'll need to win at least six, possibly seven, of our last eight games.

"But I'm happy here and I get on well with Paul (Trollope) and the board.

"Overall, I believe we're moving in the right direction."
