Supporters want to bid for Stags

A supporters' group aiming to take over Mansfield Town FC says it has already raised £40,000 - even though pledge lines have not opened yet.

Team Mansfield is trying to buy the club from chairman Keith Haslam, who has said he is interested in selling.

On Saturday, 600 supporters marched to demand more community involvement in the struggling League Two club.

Mr Haslam issued a statement on Friday saying he would listen to offers, but has declined to comment further.

Earlier talks

Team Mansfield's Chris Vasper said: ""We have had people ringing up and offering their support."

Mr Vasper said the group wants to find out how much people are willing to pledge so it can go to financial institutions to negotiate for more support.

He said the supporters' group was considering all options.

"We are not discounting anything - we might not be able to raise enough money by ourselves but ideally we would like to go by ourselves.

"If we can go to Keith Haslam in 21 days and show him that we are deeply serious about the bid I am sure he will have to give us more time."

Team Mansfield were previously involved in talks with Mr Haslam to takeover the Stags, which fell through in 2004.
