Following on from disgraceful scenes at the end of the Barnet game at the end of last season, which resulted in several stewards being sacked for actions that led to numerous complaints from supporters, head of safety at Field Mill, John Sidney has resigned.

Stags chairman James Derry told the Mansfield CHAD website on Thursday "We had a meeting this morning and it was mutually agreed John would leave his post.

"Based on the events of the last home match of the season we have received lots of criticism."

The club also suffered from a Council ruling from the fall out of the actions of the stewards, with them having to operate a reduced capacity for the start of next season.
