Seven Arrested

After bringing an impressive following of just over 1300, thanks mainly to free coach travel laid on by the Grimsby chairman, reports and complaints have been made about the heavy handed tactics that seemed to be used by both the Police and Stewards during the day.

One Grimsby Town supporter was less than impressed with his treatment as soon as he'd got of the train, writing on one GTFC message board "I was hearded into a pub by Mansfield Police immediately after leaving the train, I'm used to it as a fan that travels in groups of half a dozen or more, indeed I accepted it with good grace. I got a pint in.

Immediately we were "moved on/assaulted" by Mansfield Police (very same people that pushed us into the pub 90 seconds earlier)"

Meanwhile inside the ground, there was one potential flashpoint when Grimsby scored their winner late on in the game. A charge towards the visiting section by home 'supporters' was only stopped by a line of stewards forming a line to prevent supporters clashing with each other.

All through the game however, fans were ejected from the seats due to persistant standing, this was none more eveident than the visiting section, StagsMAD editor Michael said "I was sat in the upper tier towards the away end, and once the last section of the North Stand was opened up for the Grimsby supporters, that appeared to be the signal for stewards and police to constantly go into that area and pick supporters out at will. I appreciate that we aren't allowed to stand at football games, but come on how many times in the past at Field Mill, and also at sold out games around the country, do we see sections of supporters stood in an all seater stadium. I know the club has a duty to abide by the football stadia guide, but on Saturday there was no issue, and certainly no hostility from this area of the ground, until the intervention of the Stewards and Police. It was totaly a situation of their own making, had they just simply left well alone, there would have been no issues and no complaints."

Stags chairman John Derry however has defended the actions of the Stewards and Police, telling the Mansfield CHAD that "It is a football league requirement that people are asked to sit down."

"We don't seem to have that many problems at our games, which is why I find the amount of police presence there a bit unnecesary, It's about three times the amount of somewhere like Notts County for example."

The police have also confirmed that from the seven arrested from Saturday, that two have subequently been charged.
