Shareholders Anger

Mansfield Town shareholders and fans have launched a furious attack on the club's worsening financial situation during a stormy annual meeting at Field Mill this week.

Questions were raised regarding the company known as Stags Ltd, in which current Stags owner Keith Haslam is the main director, and which owns vacant land in Skegby, which is meant to host the clubs academy, although as yet no planning permission has been given to build on it.

Shareholders were at one to state that the land should be in the clubs name, not in the name of another company.

Club accountants Hollis & Co defended the Stags Ltd ownership, saying the asset would put the club at risk if anything went wrong with the land.

Team Mansfield were keen to keep the Stags Ltd issue high on the agenda, with representative Chris Vasper telling the Mansfield Chad after the meeting: "The land at Skegby is a massive issue. The land cost £580,000, which could have gone to the actual club yet it's just lying dormant — it's so frustrating."
