In a move that was becoming more predictable over the last couple of weeks, Peter Shirtliff has been confirmed as permanent manager of Mansfield Town Football Club.

Official Website Announcement:

Chairman Keith Haslam has named Peter Shirtliff as the new Mansfield Town Manager. Shirtliff who was operating on a caretaker manager role since the departure of Carlton Palmer in September.
Thrown in at the deep end, his first game in charge was the Carling Cup round 2 game against Championship club Southampton which saw the Stags shine through victorious. Following on from that the result not so welcoming with a defeat to Wycombe wanderers.
But the stags started to find their feet and clock good wins over Shrewsbury Town and Barnet seeing Shirtliff's young charge putting four past each club. Struglging to find the elusive away win the Stags travelled to Whaddon road where another clean sheet and two good goals saw the Stags earn their first three points away form Field Mill in seven months (almost to the day).
With a good record so far Keith Haslam chose Shirtliff from the fifty or so other potential managers that threw their names in the hat.
