Shirtliff thanks players

Mansfield manager Peter Shirtliff has sent a message of thanks to the dressing room after the players leant their support during his spell as caretaker boss.

Shirtliff was promoted from assistant to temporary manager following the resignation of Carlton Palmer in September.

But he has since been given a two-year permanent contract by chairman Keith Haslam.

And Shirtliff said: "It was very nice to hear the players express their views and say they wanted me appointed.

"I just hope we can keep it all together on the pitch now, although I think my appointment has possibly settled the ship.

"All the uncertainty has gone but, obviously, results bring a bit of confidence as well."
