Shirtliff wants to do a 'Carlisle'

Speaking to the Nottingham Evening post, Shirtliff said "That's where we want to be in 12 months time."

"I want us to be there next season - up there challenging at the top of the league, not battling against relegation,"

"That is not what I am about and if the players want success then they have to want to be there with me.

"I was very pleased with my lads, they applied themselves very well and on another day we would have won the game.

"Young Jason White did well in goal and he was a bit unlucky to concede so late. It was only right to give him a game today and he did well.

"We could have wrapped it up just before they scored when Nathan Arnold showed a bit of inexperience and shot over.

"Paul Simpson has done a good job and he can be very pleased with his players as I am with mine in the way they hauled themselves out of the relegation mire."

"There is nothing much you can do about the injuries. The squad was already down to a bare 16 for today, so it could be a youth team at Bury.

"I'm going to have to change it again for that match but it is a chance for the players who do start to show me they want a contract to play for me and Mansfield Town next season."
