Sarcevic wins nine-goal thriller

An injury time penalty from Antoni Sarcevic sealed the Fleetwood midfielder's first Football League hat-trick and an incredible 5-4 win over Mansfield.

The home side opened the scoring after just 18 seconds when Gareth Evans applying the finishing touch to an attacking move.

But Mansfield hit back within 10 minutes when a free-kick was conceded on the edge of the box and Chris Clements, on his return to the side, fired low into the far corner.

And the visitors turned the scoreline on its head before the quarter hour when a miss-kick from Ryan Cresswell teed up Anthony Howell to fire the Stags ahead.

It was end to end stuff and Fleetwood were able to make it 2-2 before the break, Sarcevic took a tumble under Martin Riley's challenge and the midfielder converted from the penalty spot.

And the lead changed again just after the hour. Sarcevic went on a dazzling run and his shot from the edge of the box deflected past Alan Marriott.

Evans grabbed his second two minutes later when the home side broke quickly from a Mansfield corner and the winger netted a 20-yard curling effort.

Sam Clucas ensured the Stags were still in it, stabbing home a loose ball to give the visitors hope.

And Ross Dyer produced an incredible late leveller when he was in the right place at the right time to turn home after Conor McLaughlin could only half scramble Sam Clucas's effort away.

That should have been the end of it but when substitute Matty Blair was bundled over in the box by James Jennings, Sarcevic was given the chance to seal his hat-trick and victory from the penalty spot and the midfielder showed great composure to end an incredible afternoon of football.
