Veteran striker Steve Claridge hit his fourth goal in three games as away day specialists Wycombe maintained their play-off push and probably ended Mansfield's own promotion hopes on a snow covered Field Mill pitch.

Wycombe grabbed four goals in 28 second-half minutes to clinch their eighth away win of the season against a Mansfield side boasting the best defensive record in League Two.

The Stags had taken a 54th minute lead when Richie Barker fired his fifth goal after Stuart Nethercott failed to cut out an Adam Rundle cross.

A minute later Fraser McLachlan thought had had doubled the home side's lead, but his close range tap-in was ruled out for offside and Mansfield were made to pay dearly.

In the 59th minute they failed to clear a Danny Senda cross, Alex Neil inadvertently handled and Claridge leveled from the penalty spot.

Three minutes later the home side again defended poorly. This time they failed to deal with a Steve Guppy cross and the ball fell kindly for Ian Stonebridge to score from 12 yards.

The Stags piled on the pressure in search of an equaliser. Wycmbe keeper Frank Talia bravely denied Rundle, Barker went close with a diving header and then forced Senda to head against his own post.

Keeper Kevin Pilkington kept the home side in the game with two superb saves to deny Claridge.

But the he made a horrendous error as Wycombe sealed victory in the 87th minute.

Claridge helped the ball into the Mansfield half, the keeper charged out of his area and Gus Uhlenbeek scored from 40 yards.

Then in injury time, Wycombe rubbed salt into Mansfield's wounds when Claridge tapped into an empty net to stretch the Chairboys' recent run to one defeat in nine games.

In the first half the Stags had adjusted well to the treacherous conditions. Adam Murray lobbed over from 30 yards, Rundle drove straight at the keeper when well placed and Colin Larkin's curling shot was well held by the diving Talia.

However, even then Wycombe were creating the better chances. Stonebridge fired over from a partially cleared Guppy free-kick and then Matt Bloomfield blazed wide from another quick counter attack.

Twelve minutes before half time the veterans Claridge and Guppy carved open the home defence, but Claridge shot wide from six yards as the visitors failed to test Mansfield keeper Pilkington.
