Imps V Mansfield - Match Preview

After two defeats on the road, the Imps return to Sincil Bank on Saturday afternoon with an in-form Mansfield Town side providing the opposition.

Following the 5-0 demolition of Grimsby Town a fortnight ago, City slipped to successive defeats at championship-chasing Carlisle United and play-off hopefuls Darlington, leaving them on the fringes of the play-off positions.

City boss Keith Alexander had his players running up and down the South Common 24 hours after the Darlington defeat, such was his anger after watching his side slip to a 4-2 reverse against the Quakers.

Injuries to the likes of Gareth McAuley, Paul Morgan, Paul Mayo and Simon Yeo dictate that wholesale changes are a virtual impossibility so Alexander will be looking for the players who were on show at Darlington to make amends for their disappointing display.

Striker Danny Bacon could come into the equation, having come through two reserve matches following his recovery from a broken leg but it still might be too early in the day for the ex-Mansfield man to feature against his former side.

Mansfield boss Peter Shirtliff, meanwhile, will be without the services of midfielder Simon Brown, who faces a hernia operation in the coming weeks. Centre-half Rhys Day is likely to return after recovering from a dead leg, but loanee Allan Russell might miss out due to a toe injury.

Kick-off at Sincil Bank Stadium is 3pm and the match referee is 'select group' official Uriah Rennie from Yorkshire.

Chelsea Barsby Campaign

Ten Mansfield Town will be cycling the 35 miles from Field Mill to Sincil Bank on Saturday to raise funds for the Chelsea Barsby Campaign.

Seven-year-old Chelsea, from Skegby, was born with eye cancer in both eyes and has undergone numerous operations to try and save her eyesight. She has lost the use of one eye and has approximately 15% vision in her the other one.

The Chelsea Barsby Campaign (CBC) was set up to raise funds to help Chelsea lead as full and active life as possible. It has purchased essential specialist equipment for use in school and at home and sent her on her dream holiday to meet Mickey Mouse in Florida.

Unfortunately Chelsea won't be able to make the match on Saturday as she will be supporting her sister at a big dancing competition in Blackpool but the riders and crew will be doing a lap of honour before the game and collectors will be with them around the ground to collect your donations.
