Shrewsbury Reaction

Speaking to the Mansfield CHAD, Shirtliff said "We just need a break."
"We didn't get one at Grimsby and we didn't get one at Shrewsbury.
"I watch the games on the League review on television and see other teams get scrappy, ugly goals. But we never seem to get them.
"We were scoring for fun at one time but that couldn't continue so now we must just keep going and grind it out.
"On the balance of play I thought we deserved the three points at Shrewsbury. Their keeper made some good saves, particularly in the second half.
"I was delighted with our display on a very difficult pitch that was not conducive to good football.
"Even so, both sides tried to play on it. The pitch cut up badly and it was very difficult to pass the ball.
"There were some unbelievable bounces which were making players look silly. The bounce was not consistent and one low backpass to Kevin Pressman came up and hit him around the knee.
"We did quite well in possession, particularly second half. And we created some decent chances near the end.
"Now we have two home games in succession which is a good chance for us to get some serious points on the board and start climbing the League."

Shrewsbury manager Gary Peter's said "It was an awful game, which was probably as bad as we've been in a long time but the boys were shattered. They've had two tough games in quick succession and it's like a bog out there and that takes it out of you."

"The pitch is very heavy and divotted, you saw at the end when Mark Stallard went receive the ball and it bounced past him. The lads are despondent when it's like this but it's the same for the opposition, we don't see it as an excuse but it's the reason football isn't played to the standard we'd like."

"Mansfield will be proud of themselves for getting the draw as they fought really hard for that point."

We were tired and so were they and it was a scrappy game, I wouldn't have wanted to watch it, wouldn't have wanted to pay to watch it and can understand that the fans didn't enjoy but it's going to be like that for a while here."
