The Stags featured striker Billy Kee in their starting line up, who used to be a favourite at the Brewers, and boss Adam Murray also handed a start to on loan keeper Adam Smith.
As expected, new signing Michael Raynes also slotted into a new look side, one almost unrecognizable from recent weeks.
Burton took full advantage in a one sided first half, and were 2-0 up at the break, through goals from Palmer and Maynard.
The Stags though, rallied in a much improved showing during the second period, and were rewarded with a Reggie Lambe strike on 51 minutes.
