Stags to Sign Striker

Danny Reet is expected to put pen to paper this afternoon in a two and half year deal.

Having recently been on loan at Bury, where he scored 4 goals in 6 starts, Shirtliff has moved smartly to get his man, speaking about the transfer, Shirtliff spoke to the Mansfield Chad Website, saying
"Danny is a promising young player,"
"He is a strong lad with good physique and he has an eye for goal with a good scoring record.
"I thought he played very well against us and I have monitored his progress since he was at Bury.
"I went in for him as soon as I knew Wednesday were recalling him and made a bid for him.
"Obviously Bury wanted him as well so we are delighted he is coming here.
"I thought we were light in the striker department. When Matthew Tipton left us it left a void and that was made even worse by Chris Beardsley's injury.
"We do have Richie Barker and Simon Brown and I have manged to get Allan Russell in on loan for the rest of the season.
"But Allan can also play wide right of midfield and we may do some work on that in training.
"We do have Adam Birchall as well but I am not too sure what his best position is. I think it may be wide on the right too.
"So signing Danny gives us some real competition for places.
"It is good to sign him on a long term deal too as I am looking to build a squad I can work with over a period of time rather than just short term."
