Tonsilitis Hits Stags

Alex John-Baptiste and Ashley Kitchen have been struck down with the illness, and have subsequently been told to stay away from the rest of the squad, as a precaution.

Stags boss Billy Dearden told the Mansfield CHAD on Thursday "As far as Alex and Ashley are concerned, they have been told to stay away from the club after they were diagnosed as having tonsilitis. We don't want anything like that around.

"No one else has shown any symptoms up to now.

The timing could not have been worse, with the season curtain raiser at Brentford not just hours away, and the illness putting their appearance into question, Dearden going on "It really will be a last minute decision on those two."

There is though, better news on the minor injury front, with Martin McIntosh, Michael Boulding and Dan Martin all training this week without any immediate reaction and will train again before the trip to Brentford at the weekend.
